Background

Don’t know how to change your background? We have a quick tutorial and a more detailed tutorial below. We have also included red images you can use (see buttons below).

First, the quick tutorial:

During the All-Staff Zoom Call (July 29) or any other zoom call:

Save your red image to your desktop/device in a format like JPG or PNG

Click the ^ arrow next to the Video button in Zoom.

Select Choose Virtual Background and pick your red background.

Before You Start

Ensure Zoom is updated: Use the latest version of Zoom to access the virtual background feature.

Prepare your image: Have a red background image ready (e.g., a solid red image or an OPSSU background). Save it to your computer in a format like JPG or PNG.

Steps to Change Your Zoom Background prior to the meeting:

  1. Open Zoom
  2. On Desktop
    • Click your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner of the Zoom app.
    • Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
    • In the Settings window, click Background & Filters/Video & effects (then Virtual Background/ Background & effects).
    • In the Virtual Backgrounds tab, you’ll see default Zoom backgrounds (e.g., beach, space).
    • To add a custom red background click the + (plus) icon and select Add Image.
    • Browse your computer to locate and upload your red background image (JPG/PNG).
    • Click or tap the red background image to select it. It should appear as your background in the preview.
  3. On Mobile
    • Click your profile picture or initials in the Zoom app.
    • Tap Meetings or Settings.
    • Go to Background & Effects/ Video & effects:
    • Select or Upload a Background:
    • Tap Add or the + icon, then select your red background image from your device’s gallery or files.
