Ontario Public Service Staff Union prepares for potential strike/lockout

Toronto – March 8, 2016 – The Ontario Public Service Staff Union (OPSSU), which represents more than 350 workers at the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), has increased its available strike funds to $1.7 million in advance of a potential lockout or strike action.

Mark Kotanen, Chair of the OPSSU Bargaining Team, says the rationale for the strike fund increase is a response to anti-staff signals by OPSEU, which has pushed OPSSU to file an unfair labour practice complaint. “We are ready to do what it takes, and that includes the possibility of being pushed to strike action,” said Kotanen.
